About Polarbröd
Polarbröd is a family-owned, value-driven Swedish company that has been baking the traditional breads of northern Sweden for more than 100 years. Our vision is to create opportunities to eat good and healthy food now and for generations to come. The family has been baking bread in Älvsbyn in northern Sweden since 1879. Today the company is owned by the children and grandchildren of the founders of the modern Polarbröd, Greta and Gösta Nilsson. Over the years the company has developed into a corporation, the Polarbröd Group. Karin Bodin, who is part of the family’s fifth generation of bakers, is the CEO of the corporationAnders E Johansson is Polarbröd’s CEO.
The corporation has an annual turnover of about 1,3 mkr and employs 270 people. The parent company, Polarbrödsgruppen AB, provides business support and focuses on issues of long-term, strategic importance. Polarkraft AB produces renewable energy to meet the corporation’s electricity needs, primarily wind power from the company’s wind turbines. Polarbröd owns 51% of Polfärskt Bröd, which provides support and service to 24 independently owned distribution companies who deliver fresh Polarbröd to grocery stores throughout Sweden every day – from Gällivare in the north to Malmö in the south.

The corporation consists of Polarbrödsgruppen and two subsidiaries, Polarbröd and Polarrenen, who themselves have 12 subsidiaries. The corporation employs 270 people who focus on everything from baking bread and managing real estate properties, to sustainability to renewable energy.

Production We bake more than 29 000 tons of bread annually.
Real Estate Polarrenen owns 13 properties.
Wind power We own five wind turbines that produced 34,9 GWh 2022, which is 22% more than the corporation used.
Certifications Polarbröd’s bakeries have BRC and ISO 14001 certifications. Our bakery in Bredbyn is also Krav-certified.
Locations We have three locations in northern Sweden: Älvsbyn, Bredbyn and Umeå.
Our markets Polarbröd is Sweden’s third-largest producer of bread. We bake traditional northern-Swedish flatbreads, including soft thinbreads and crisp thinbreads. We also produce a range of ready-made sandwiches. Our breads are available in grocery stores throughout Sweden and in some European markets. We also sell Polarbröd products to foodservice and industry customers in Sweden and other European markets. Norway is our largest export market. Polarrenen’s areas of business include renewable energy, real estate and leasing. Polarrenen’s properties are located in cities along the eastern coast of northern Sweden.
